Volunteering opportunities

There is no shortage of places to volunteer at within the charity sector, so allow us to convince you why you should volunteer with us!

When you volunteer with Beacon, you’ll grow both personally and professionally. You’ll not only gain new friends, but also new skills that will expand your horizon. Your volunteer work will make a measurable difference in the lives of rare disease patients, patient groups and families. Your contributions will be vital to ensuring that no one faces their rare journey alone.

Don’t just take our word for it. Meet our past volunteers!

Ike

Ike joined Beacon for three weeks as a summer intern during her time at Royal Holloway University London. As an aspiring scientific writer, Ike was eager to help us by editing and rewriting learning courses for our e-learning portal. She is delighted that volunteering with us has improved her writing skills, scientific knowledge and professional confidence.

Rhys

Rhys had just finished his second year as a medical student at Oxford University when he joined us as a summer intern. Tasked with engaging more people in rare diseases and our charity, he had a lightbulb moment: a student essay competition!

Rhys spent the summer turning his idea into a full project and his legacy has lived on: The Student Voice Prize is now a very popular and well-renowned part of our annual calendar!
