The Student Voice Essay Prize 2019 launched today (Friday 4th October). In partnership with Medics4RareDiseases, this competition, now in its sixth year, offers a fantastic opportunity for medical students to develop an understanding of rare diseases. Many medical students go through medical school without ever encountering rare diseases: We want to change this. Entrants choose from a selection of questions then write a case study based on this. Most students choose to be put in contact with rare disease advocates from our community.
The winner of the Essay Prize will have their essay published in the Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases as well as a cash prize. A published article is worth a point towards a student’s FPAS score. We hope that by running this competition, it will instil a lifelong interest in pursuing rare disease in doctors of the future.
