Hi! My name is Juliet, and I am fundraising for Beacon by running GEAR 10K in Kings Lynn on 30th April.
Why are you fundraising for Beacon?
I have known the Beacon team for years. My first job after university was in the same office as Beacon (which was known as Findacure at the time). I have so many fun memories with the Beacon team and have enjoyed getting to know their new members of staff.
I have seen first-hand how hardworking the Beacon team is and the amazing impact they have had on patient groups. I have attended many of their fantastic events across the UK, my favourite being their rare disease drug repurposing conference. I used to work for The AKU Society, a rare disease charity that supports those with Alkaptonuria (AKU). Having a rare disease is an isolating experience and rare disease patient groups are vital for providing support and a community for those with a rare disease.

I hope I can raise funds to help Beacon continue its rare disease patient group training and create a rare disease community.
Have you had previous running experience?
During the COVID pandemic, I started the ‘Couch to 5k’ app and did the NHS 5k challenge in April 2020. Since then, I have been running every week and during the third UK lockdown, I ran two 10ks. However, I have not participated in a race before and am excited to be in a race environment – hopefully I can beat my Personal Best (PB)!

How are you fundraising for Beacon?
I have set up a fundraising page on Give as you Live to raise funds for Beacon – I appreciate any donation!
Every penny raised will go towards patient group training, creating a rare community, and helping rare disease research.
